What you taught me about community

Imagine this: a concert, a singing party, or a calm moment with a favorite song. Each of these experiences has something in common—they connect us. They remind us that community is where we belong, even if we don't always realize it.

This year, I had the privilege of stepping onto the stage at Design Matters 2024 to talk about what I've learned from you—the Musixmatch community—over the past five years. Your passion and dedication have shaped not just the place we build but also who I am as a designer.

Musixmatch isn't just the largest lyrics catalog in the world—it's a place where music lovers like us come together. Everyone contributes, translates, sync, and tags lyrics, turning songs into shared experiences that connect people across languages and cultures.

At the heart of our work is the principle that community is more than a collection of individuals—it's a shared journey.

Every time you add a lyric, refine a translation or help a fellow community member, you remind me that our community is beyond lyrics; it's about sharing passion and purpose.

Musixmatch Connected: a ritual of belonging

One of the rituals that brings our connection to life is Musixmatch Connect. Every month, we come together here to celebrate you—our community.

• We look back on milestones and recognize the incredible work you've done.
• We dive into the music world, sharing stories, inspiration, and movements.
• And, of course, we play together—through music-themed games, challenges, and moments that remind us why we're here.

Musixmatch Connect creates new moments that unite us. This ritual empowers us, creates bonds and makes us a community.

What I’ve learned from us

Designing for our community has taught me so much. From you, I've learned:

1. Belonging starts small. The smallest contributions—a synced lyric, a thoughtful comment—can bring people together.
2. Passion powers connection. One person's love for a lyric can inspire countless others to join in."
3. Connection is deeper than words—it's the humanity, the stories, and the emotions behind them that matter.
