As we know, each month, we spotlight a standout member of the Musixmatch community, someone whose passion, dedication, and impact truly shine. For June, we're thrilled to celebrate Pavel as our Curator of the Month! Pavel hails from Kazakhstan, and mostly contributes in English and Russian (but sometimes also Kazakh or Belarusian).
Hello Pavel, thanks for being with us! Let’s start from the basics, I know you’re from Kazakhstan, but would you like to tell us more about your origins?
I’m originally from Karaganda, Kazakhstan, a city known for its coal mining heritage and strong industrial roots. It also has a rich cultural scene with deep musical traditions that reflect both Russian and Kazakh influences. Later, in my teenage years, I moved with my family to Vitebsk, Belarus. I think growing up in these two places had a big impact on how I perceive music, both as a listener and a contributor.
Tell us more about your Musixmatch journey, when did it start?
I joined Musixmatch on March 1st, 2022. Just a few days later, I passed the curator test. I originally joined because I noticed many songs I loved didn’t have lyrics available on Spotify. I thought, why not fix that myself, and that curiosity led me to this amazing community. Over time, it became more than just a hobby. I wanted to help not only the fans of the music I love, but all listeners. That’s when I discovered the Missions, which introduced me to new artists and expanded my own musical tastes.
Throughout my journey, I’ve always tried to help others who reach out, and I actively support fellow curators as they grow in their roles. Seeing someone improve their skills thanks to your advice is incredibly fulfilling.
What would you say is your favorite thing about Musixmatch?
What I love most is that Musixmatch connects people from all around the world who share a passion for music. It’s not just a platform. It’s a community where anyone can make a meaningful impact. We’re all here because we care about helping others understand music better, whether through synced lyrics, translations, or just sharing the experience.
A nice experience you had related to Musixmatch and to music in general?
I once went to a concert by the band Kis-Kis, and because I had worked on their lyrics on Musixmatch, I knew every word. Singing along with thousands of people was unforgettable. It reminded me why I contribute, because lyrics really do bring people together. That moment still inspires me to keep going.
A song you recently added lyrics on that you are very proud of?
There isn’t one particular song, but I often come across tracks with unconventional structures. These challenge me in the best way, figuring out the right tag placement, how to break verses into logical lines, and how to preserve the song’s rhythm. I love that even with all the experience I’ve gained, some songs still push me to think differently.
Well, I think that was all for our interview, is there anything else you’d like to add, before we close?
I want to say a huge thank you to the entire Musixmatch community. It’s rare to find a place where your passion for music can grow into something more meaningful. I’m proud to be part of this movement and excited to see how we can continue improving the listening experience for people around the world.
And as a parting thought, I’d like to share a quote that resonates with me:
“Music is the shorthand of emotion.” — Leo Tolstoy
Let’s keep making sure those emotions are understood, felt, and shared, word by word, lyric by lyric.
