One million points for a great Specialist

August 2023

Meet our Contributor of the Month, Olawale! What began as a casual journey in Musixmatch has now blossomed into an impressive achievement – not only is he a Specialist, but he has also reached 1 million points through his contributions.

Usually, we conduct the Contributor of the Month interviews ourselves. However, this time, the Curators had a multitude of questions for Olawale, so we decided to hand over the microphone to them – an interview crafted by our community, for our community.

Olawale hails from Lagos, Nigeria. Asides being a Curator Specialist, he is also an artist, and he has worked in the music industry for over a decade. He mostly contributes in English, Nigerian Pidgin, and Yoruba.

How did you get into Musixmatch? Becoming a Curator and Specialist?

In 2019, I was researching ways to put up my own lyrics on streaming platforms and I stumbled on Musixmatch. I signed up on the platform as an artist, got verified, kept adding my own lyrics and I soon received the email about taking the Curator test.

To be honest, I didn't know what that meant, but a little more research showed there's a whole community of Curators, so out of curiosity, I took the test, passed, joined Slack, took my time to get familiar with the community, then started contributing.

About two months later, I got the call to join the Specialist team (apparently, my contributions were pretty solid). It actually all happened so fast and here we are.

Đức Lực - Can you tell us about the process of becoming a trusted Specialist? What motivated you to work hard on the Musixmatch quests and achieve such a million points?

It's simple - contributions have to be perfect, and helping others grow within the Musixmatch community should also be a priority.

About what motivated me, consistency has always been a strong attribute I have. Whatever field I find myself in, I always make sure I leave a mark and that's all the motivation I need. It's just how I'm built.

Đức Lực - Finally, do you have something to say to other Specialists? (Or to Curators want to become Specialists like you?)

To my teammates, we make such a great team and I believe unity and tolerance are the ways we've been able to achieve this over the years. Let's keep this up!

To the Curators, stay working and perfecting your craft, your time will come.

Olomu Emmanuel - How much impact has MXM had on you positively?

It heavily influenced my attention-to-detail game.

Keisy - How much time do you dedicate to Musixmatch missions per day?

About 8–10 hours a day depending on how soon I'm able to reach my daily target.

Vaclovas Intas  - What's your [actual] favourite song(s)?

I actually don't have a favourite song, but I have favourite artists. I'm a '90s rap head, so anything from the likes of KRS-One, Nas, Notorious B.I.G., Rakim, etc does it for me.

But of course, I do check out other genres too, and that's also the beauty of working with Musixmatch. You discover lots of other good songs, artists, and genres.

With that said, KRS-One's "The MC" might be a strong contender as my all-time favourite.

Mauro - The last question, that we often ask our contributor of the month, would you tell us a nice experience you had related to Musixmatch?

Anytime I get to show off about working on that song a family or friend is crazy about is always a nice experience! Haha
