How to get the most out of Lyrics Corrections

This is some text inside of a div block.

Last year we made some sizable changes to our verification and distribution process. The result was an empowered mission system that helped us ensure the highest level of quality on our distributed tracks. These changes were necessary and, for the most part, highly positive ones, but some Community members reported difficulties correcting Curator-locked songs in a way that didn’t simultaneously wipe existing distributions.

Last month, we opened a path for these cases and this month we’re delighted to walk you all down it!

What you’ll need to have

  • A Curator status
  • Access to the Curator Slack Workspace

The process is open exclusively to users who hold a Curator status. Why? Curators are users who have passed both the Academy and the Curator test, which helps us ensure a certain level of quality within their correction suggestions. Naturally, if we’re going to unlock lyrics to make edits, we need to make sure those lyrics are correctly transcribed and formatted!

If you’re interested in correcting locked lyrics but don’t yet have the Curator status, check out this article to find out how to get one. If you do have one, make sure you’ve joined the Curator Slack Workspace so you can access this (and many other) exclusive features. Once you’re there, you’ll want to find the Lyrics Correction channel and get ready to make a request!

What you’ll need to provide

  • The link or abstrack of the song you want to correct
  • Confirmation of the song’s current status
  • A diffchecker of your suggestions

The first thing you’ll need to provide in your post to the channel is the Musixmatch link or the abstrack to the song you’d like to correct. You’ll also have to confirm whether the song has a Community, Curator, Specialist, or Artist lock, and whether the song is in the mission system or not. Finally, we’ll need a diffchecker link so we can review the edits you’d like to make. I know that sounds like a lot, but I promise it’s not as complicated as it seems. Here below you can see some examples of perfectly formed requests:

The information you provide will then decide what happens next! If your request is accepted, it’ll either be pushed to a Specialist for their attention, or to the Lyrics Correction mission for yours. In any case, the result will be a set of freshly fixed and distributed lyrics you can be proud of!

If you have any questions about the process, you can reach out for answers in the Curator Slack Workspace.
