February is the shortest month but was a HUGE one this year in terms of world events. One of these events took place down the road from Planet Musixmatch; the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina. 2 years ago, we spoke about the role of music in the Paris Summer games, and while music had an equally important role in the skating, skiing, and après-ski singing of the 25th Olympiad, with this article we want to focus more on the songs you’ve been loving following their inclusion in events on Earth.
We began the month with the 68th Annual Grammy Awards which saw huge artists like Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Olivia Dean awarded for their contributions to music over the past year. Alongside the awards, we also saw a number of special performances; two of which in particular appear to have had a big effect on the Musixmatch Community! The Musixmatch pages for Alex Warran’s ‘Ordinary’ and Bruno Mars’ ‘I Just Might’ both saw a boost in visits following the artists’ performances at the Grammys, now ranking the 8th and 5th most visited we have. The rest of the top 5 all belong to one artist who had a very special month indeed. Not only did he pick up 3 Grammys, he also made history delivering the first ever Super Bowl halftime show entirely in Spanish.
We’re, of course, talking about Bad Bunny! Benito’s 2025 album ‘DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS’ was widely celebrated upon its release, but has since returned to the limelight following its Grammys success and its prevalence at the Super Bowl halftime show. The show was a vibrant celebration of Latin-American culture and featured performances of DtMF, BAILE INoLVIDABLE, NUEVAYoL, and Tití Me Preguntó which have all consequentially jumped to the top of our charts.
It becomes very clear, then, just what a big impact entertainment events have on our listening habits, and vice versa! It’s ultimately an almost symbiotic relationship between global events and the music that accompanies them; anything from a football match to a film can be enriched with the addition of a song, which will then receive boosted attention due to its inclusion.
