Earlier in the month, the annual MTV Europe Music Awards came to Manchester for an evening of sparkles, stunts, and special prizes for the hottest musical names of the moment.
Perhaps the most special of all, for ‘Best Song’, went to Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso, which triumphed above other top hits from Ariana Grande, Benson Boone, Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, and Chappel Roan. A few of these same names were also nominated for the other big prize for ‘Best Artist’, though it was ultimately Taylor Swift who won. And this wasn’t the only trophy Tay Tay took home; she also won ‘Best Video’ with Post Malone and they’ll remain the winners for a whole year, not only a ‘Fortnight’ 😉. The prize for ‘Best Collaboration’ went to new women Rosalía and LISA, while Benson Boone, who shot to fame this year with his song ‘Beautiful Things’, picked up ‘Best New Artist.
A whole host of talented artists were also celebrated in the genre and region specific awards, including, to name just a few, Tyla, Pabllo Vittar, Peso Pluma, and reigning Eurovision Song Contest Winner, Nemo.
Artists winning the prizes weren’t the only ones celebrated, though, and many others treated us with spectacular stage shows. New Artist winner Benson Boone sang at a piano suspended mid-air, Le Sserafim gave us an electrifying dance show, and the Pet Shop Boys served us a rendition of their iconic single ‘West End Girls’, complete with their usual theatrical masks and outfits.
The night in general was a showcase of outstanding musical talent from artists whose songs you, as a member of our community, are bound to have contributed to during your time with Musixmatch. It’s awesome to think of all the music lovers worldwide who have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy, an enhanced experience thanks to your time, efforts, and dedication. To MTV and our community alike we say, “Thank you for the music!” and can’t wait to see which artists we’ll be celebrating next year.
