Unlocking non-mission contributions

This is some text inside of a div block.

Let’s start with the words that many of you have been eagerly waiting to read, in case you haven’t read them already: Non-mission contributions are back! And not just that, they’re back with a boosted level of security which will help us all ensure the highest degree of quality and integrity across the lyrics catalogue.

As always, the songs you’re able to contribute to will depend on two things: the role of your Musixmatch account, and that of the most decorated account to have already worked on the song. The specifics of that system, though, have been reformed. Please see below for all the news you need!

For Rookies…

You’ll notice that the ability to contribute lyrics is now withheld until you’ve passed The Academy,  a measure taken in the interest of protecting the quality of the lyrics catalogue. The Academy provides a fast, easy, and fun way to learn the basics of Musixmatch Lyrics Contribution. It won’t take you long to pass it, but doing so will prove that you’re ready for the contribution rights that graduation awards you. From there onwards, your contribution powers and permissions will increase further as you climb the role ladder, so if you find yourself wanting to work on tracks that you can’t, you’ll just have to refer to this article to see how to unlock the abilities you desire!

For Graduates…

Just as before the recent maintenance, you’ll be able to contribute to any track that doesn’t have an existing transcription, as well as to those that have contributions from other Graduates and Rookies. Tracks worked on by Curators and Specialists will appear to you as locked.

For Curators

Curator contributions are also, at least for now, locked to the contributions of other Curators. This is likely to change soon, so stay tuned for news, but in the meantime this means that Curators are unable to edit their own already saved contributions; your first contribution to a track as a Curator will be the one that counts, so make sure to put your best work forward from the very first edit!

The other minor change you may notice is what happens after you send a contribution.

Again depending on your role, you may notice a slight delay between sending your lyrics and seeing them updated on our website. This is because we’ve developed our quality assurance procedures with additional checks to make sure that every contribution is representative of the high calibre of the catalogue at large. Updates on our partners’ sites will also be delayed in some cases; we’ll be keeping an eye on the results of this new release and making further adjustments as a result of our findings.

Regardless of these minor tweaks to the system, your experience as a contributor doesn’t have to change at all. You may just have to increase your role to reflect the permissions and powers you long for. This is good news for everyone, as it will result in an ever-increasing standard of quality, and an ever-increasing feeling of pride in the catalogue that we all contribute to.
