End-of-year message from Musixmatch

This is some text inside of a div block.

We’re reaching the end of the Musixmatch year and thought it would be a great opportunity to reflect on all we’ve achieved as a community. It’s been a big year here on Planet Musixmatch with loads of new features and projects, many of which have been directly inspired, influenced, and even developed by the community!

Here’s a recap of some of the highlights of the MXM 2022 calendar!

We started the year in January with big plans for community growth, ambitious hopes for new community roles and opportunities, and intentions to extend the mission system.

In February, we said goodbye to ‘Newbies’ and hello to ‘Rookies’. The change was intended to help encourage new users to continue their journey, and was ultimately chosen by the community!

In March we introduced a new space on the Slack channels specifically for Musixmatchers from African countries and languages. We also launched the Wallet feature for the Musixmatch studio, allowing users to keep track of their mission tracks and upcoming rewards. March was also a big month for Musixmatch Podcasts, as we held a number of beta tests and delivered bonuses to the most active users supporting the process

In April we gathered feedback from our users speaking scripted, non-Latin

languages. Our community is impressively diverse and the hope of this survey was to understand how accessible our products are for users across the globe. Based on this feedback from our community, we were able to schedule a number of bug fixes to help us improve our products.

In May, following the growing success of the Slack channel for African users established in March, we held a meet and greet to better connect with this establishing community. We also gathered some feedback about difficulties in working in the mission system with African languages. This feedback was vital in helping us with one of our goals for the next month…

The African Mission! This was introduced in June to help resolve some of the complications caused by having African dialect tracks included in other language lists. The mission helped organize these tracks, enabling our African community to focus on the tracks they most want to work! We also celebrated Pride month, compiling a playlist of songs loved by our community for their messages of diversity and acceptance <3

July was all about our team of Specialists! They are our most dedicated users and we used this month to make sure they were aware of how much we appreciate them. We held a call, giving them some sneak-peaks of upcoming products and asking for feedback and suggestions for the future. One Specialist requested a welcome pack to help onboard newly recruited specialists. We thought this was a great idea and so got to work producing it!

In August, we completed the welcome pack, which turned out to be super helpful in recruiting the 7 new Specialists upgraded this month! So many new Specialists in one month is pretty rare, and the welcome pack helped make sure they were all able to smoothly move into their new role.

In September, we saw the introduction of El Sprint Español, a new mission for Spanish speakers focusing on the notorious Red Bull Batalla De Los Gallos event. The tracks from these rap-battles are famously difficult, and our Spanish community did a fantástico job on them!

October was a very special month for us, as we launched our rockets and made contact with Planet Musixmatch for the first time! That’s right, this month saw the arrival of Connected, the blog and newsletter made about and for the wonderful Musixmatch community. It was really important for us to find a way of keeping you all up to date with the latest Musixmatch news, and Connected let us do exactly that, whilst also giving you some #justforfun games and kudos at the same time!

In November we started preparations for the arrival of the Translation Mission, something the community had been requesting for quite some time. This month we got started on creating the tests for the Translation Curator role, which would allow access to the mission. Here comes another opportunity to give some well-deserved Kudos to our Specialist team, many of whom were a massive help in creating and localizing the tests.

In December this hard work came to fruition, as we officially launched the mission in a number of languages! We’ve already seen hundreds of users working on the new mission and we’ll now be working on optimizing and perfecting the system, ready for the addition of further languages!

So looking back at 2022, it’s pretty clear we’ve all got a lot to be proud of, and this calendar only presents a portion of them. It’s also very clear that we owe you, our community, a big thank you; without you none of this year’s achievements, nor those of past years, would be possible. We’re extremely grateful for all of your efforts and hope you’re aware of this. We already have many big plans for 2023 and can’t wait to share them with you! In the meantime, wherever you are and however you celebrate this time of year, we hope you all have a great time.
